After I purchased it 35 years ago, it made two trips back to the factory but neither resulted in the trigger being any better. It is creepy and very heavy. Despite the trigger, its a very good shooting rifle when the barrel is clean.The 783's bold head fit on the X7 / XL7's bolt and fits Savage barrels right for a good head space and what some are doing. If using the X7 / XL7 bolt with a Savage barrel, about 10 thousands has to be shaved off the Marlin bolt head face for them to align right for a good head space. Either that or swapping out with a 783 bolt head will work.
